ANZAC Day

I got a colleague who loves to bake. Every Wednesday she will bring some form of cake for her department. I am not in her department but next department. That does not stop me from shamelessly inviting myself over when I see a cake that I like.
Today while I was on a teleconference meeting, she quietly sizzled up to me and gave me this. This is the famous ANZAC biscuit.
It's a type of oatmeal biscuit, soft and chewy with some sweetness. This biscuit reminded me that next Monday is ANZAC day which is also a war remembrance day. For me it's significance lies in its public holiday.
Yes people it is a long weekend this week.
ANZAC biscuit used to be called soldier biscuit because it is war food. This day remembers soldiers that died in the famous Gallipoli battle in Turkey during WW II where we fight for our ally the British. So they need to send food that is high in nutrient and easy to carry not to mention long lasting. Hence the ANZAC biscuit was invented.
I remembered this cause Bits is sure it will come out in my citizenship exam. Now that I think about it, this is like modern day trail mix or energy bar. Although ingredients are common people make this just for ANZAC day much like moon cake for moon cake festival or lo sang for CNY.

All important days must have their signature food.
ANZAC day is one of the rare public holidays where there is no replacement if it falls on a weekend.
